This application allows you to receive warnings of sea state conditions on the coasts of Costa Rica. Forecasts of wind, height, period and direction of waves, sea surface temperature and marine currents are made, both in the Pacific and Caribbean of Costa Rica, with comments that issue cautionary messages for bathers, rip currents and boat navigation. You can also consult tide predictions in the main coastal regions of Costa Rica. Additionally, you can receive informative notifications consisting of relevant news, definitions, useful tips in emergencies and general information.
The main objective is to offer updated information every 6 hours on the state of the sea on ocean-meteorological events that may represent a marine-coastal threat in Costa Rica.
It is aimed at sea users who in some way require timely information to carry out their safe activities, including fishermen, tourists, surfers, permanent or occasional residents, and government offices, coast guards, port captains, etc. to distribute warnings in case of adverse marine-coastal conditions.
The Oceanographic Information Module (MIO) is a project created in June 2011 within the Center for Research in Marine Sciences and Limnology (CIMAR) of the University of Costa Rica (UCR), with the financial support of the National Prevention Commission of Risks and Emergency Assistance (CNE) of Costa Rica.
